Russell feels his original strength Cajun BBQ Sauce has enough heat for anybody, but not "too hot" (for him). But doing demos and Farmer's Markets finally convinced Russell to add a no-heat sauce and a "Brutal" sauce. The only difference is the heat, or lack of it. In 1990, Mr. Gene Blattman, then president and CEO of McCormick Spices, had his 6 executive chefs do a blind taste test of Russell's Cajun BBQ Sauce and 6 major brands, all 6 chose Russell's as "hands down, the best BBQ sauce". In 1995, Russell participated in the annual Calistoga BBQ Festival in California. Over 20 other BBQ sauce vendors at the event competed for the coveted People's Choice Award and The Chef's Choice Award. Russell's Original sauce took both prestigious ribbons.
